Jouer Mermaid Iridescent Eyeshadow Palette

So, the other day, I was watching YouTube like any true addict and I saw this video Mermaid Eyes & Glowy Skin by mesijesibeauty.  I fell in love with that eyeshadow palette.  I have been wanting colors like that. I hit YouTube for hardcore research and there were not many videos with this palette.  So, I didn't know how others were reacting to the palette.

I knew it was limited edition and I was concerned that if I waited, I might not get it.  So... I purchased the Jouer Mermaid Iridescent Eyeshadow Palette.  It is $38.00 for four .07 oz shadows.  At this time, it appears to be available on the Jouer site, but Frends Beauty is also stocking it.  You can get it a little cheaper and at a better shipping price from Frends Beauty.  Neither site uses Ebates.  It is also available on Cult Beauty for £30.00.  Rumor has it that Nordstrom will be carrying some of this collection.

They are considered mineral pigments and are supposed to have things that are good for your skin in them.

The box was pretty and very much fits the theme of the palette.

However, it was some wasted packaging, as the palette is nearly half the size of the box.  Maybe it's for safety in shipping?

When you open the box it has a pretty look you can do with the palette and you know I have already done that look.  I'm wearing it right now. That pic was the one that cemented my purchase of this.

Left to Right: Coconut, Pink Pearl, Splash, Dreamer
The four shadows are a decent size, they also have the Jouer signature ability to slide each shadow out and form your own palette.  It really allows you to play.  The compacts are okay, the mirror only goes as high as shown, so applying with the compact mirror is a little annoying.

Coconut
Dry
Wet

Coconut is just beautiful.  It appears to be white but has a beautiful white/teal duochrome action.  It is rather sheer but buildable.  It is creamy and fine.  I didn't have a lot of fall out with this.  In the light it becomes rather sparkly.  All of these shades can be used wet or dry and I didn't notice the eyeshadow becoming icky in the pan after wet.  I love this in the inner corner and think it will beautiful year round.

Pink Pearl
Dry
Wet
Pink Pearl is a sheer buildable pink.  It has a nice iridescence.  It is very creamy and blends well.  Like the other colors, it didn't have a lot of fall out.  It appears glittery in the light.  This is a great color for all over the lids.  It can give a pretty look that doesn't smack you in the face and works with all the pink shadow releases. It can be used with or over some of those other pink palettes.

Splash
Dry
Wet
Splash is a sheer iridescent aqua color.  It follows the quality and formulations of the others.  It is a tiny bit more pigmented, but it may just be the nature of the shade rather than a formula difference.  It almost seems to glow on your skin.  It can look metallic and screams summer.  Just a pop of this under the eyes is all "Bam!"

Dreamer

Wet
Dry
Dreamer is the star of this mermaid show.  It is way more pigmented than the other shadows.  It isn't as fine textured as the others but still feels very creamy.  It is described as a duochrome peacock and I could totally picture Hera rocking this.  These pictures absolutely do not do this color justice.  It blends well, with the base color becoming more prominent when blended out.  I love this as an eye liner or in a smokey eye.

Left to Right: Jouer Dreamer, Urban Decay Lounge, MAC Blue Brown Pigment, and ColourPop Bae
I know when I saw this color, I wanted to know if it was close to Lounge or Blue Brown, so I thought I'd pop it next to those colors, that way you would have that question answered for yourself.  I wouldn't consider it a dupe, but it has similarities to each of the other colors.  I haven't done reviews on any of the others and might have to as I love this sort of shade.  I think Makeup Geek Insomnia would fall into this color family.  In case you were wondering, I had to pile on Bae to get it to the pigmentation of the others.

I think that Jouer nailed this idea.  They definitely fall into mermaid and are very summery.  The first three shades are more sheer and really work for a summer look but can be built up for drama.  They would also work to top other shades or with colored bases for more fun.  Dreamer is the epitome of a mermaid's tail.  Everything is glittery, so if that's not what you're into, you will not like this.

Aging eyes will have to use care with this, as with most glittery stuff, but it is pretty creamy and I didn't have it sinking into any fine lines.  It doesn't have any strong scents.  The shadows remain consistent in their quality.  There isn't a dud in the group.

This is selling fast.  If you like it, get it sooner rather than later.  I was very surprised that I liked this as much as I do.

I have four products from the collection: Skinny Dip, Unicorn, and Fairy in addition to this palette.

* I bought this from the Jouer site with my own money.  No one threatened to make me swim with the fishes if I didn't review.

Makeup Geek Blush XOXO

Sorry I have been slacking my friends, my day job has kept me super busy this spring.  There was also vacation to Glenwood Springs, which maybe I'll post a little about.  It didn't help me do my monthly boxes.  I promise to do them this month.  Boxycharm has done a good job, while Ipsy and Birchbox are on my meh list.  Boxycharm even let me try the new Makeup Geek blush.  I know, you didn't see 459,568 unboxing videos and were not aware of that.

I own some Makeup Geek blushes and while I like them, I haven't had my skirt blown up over them.  Maybe I should wear more skirts...no...neon white leg syndrome.  It could be dangerous. People could be blinded and walk into walls or traffic. Anyways!  I was interested in the idea, but I wasn't doing back flips (another awkward thing about wearing skirts).

In her blush collection there are new colors and she reformulated her old ones. Some of the reformulated colors are slightly different and some of her popular blushes went to the chopping block.

She also arranged them by recommended skin tone.  It isn't to say you can't wear one out of your skin tone, you may just have to go light or total ham.

XOXO
Instead of receiving the pan  XOXO blush, which sells for $10.00 and would have been pretty cool, they gave us the one in the compact.  They gave us the Makeup Geek XOXO Blush in the compact that sells for $15.00 and is .15 oz.

Makeup Geek is a company I like in that they don't test on animals, they are talc and paraben free, they are made in the US, and they ship world wide.

I should have made you brace yourself before serving that package on you.  I'm a terrible person.  It is a lovely darkened rose gold with a magnetic closure.  It will show your prints, but they do make things you can wipe those off with.  Rumor on the street anyways.  It feels sturdy and not in anyway cheap.  The Makeup Geek logo is stamped into the top of the compact.

The bottom is the same, with the little sticker to remind you which color this is.

As you can see, this is a good size and won't give you that moment when you can't fit your brush into the pan and are left wondering at the thought process of makeup creation.

The site calls it a watermelon pink but I find it to have some peach tones and leans warm. This is a wearable warm.  It was made for those with medium skin, but with a light hand, it can work for someone with skin as pale as mine.

It is finely milled and quite pigmented.  This can be tough when applying it to skin as pale as mine because it can get a little patchy.  In that case, just blend.  It will blend out and if it has troubles, you can always use a little powder or the brush you used to apply the powder.

I like the packaging.  The color is great for summer.  It has good pigmentation.  On pale skin, it may be patchy and little tough to blend out because it is so pigmented.  Or maybe it's patchy on everyone and I'm being too generous?

Overall while it makes me want to try the new blushes, but I'm not drawn to any of the colors.  The down side to the collection is there are a lot of warm tones and cool tones really get a miss.  The good side is she really thought in terms of skin color and super pale and dark skin tones didn't get forgotten about.

I just hope it's just my pale bringing on the splotch factor!

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip Prim

I've always liked reds.  There is something that makes me happy when I wear red.  A red lip makes you feel something.  It's like you know you own it.  My favorites are the blue reds, but there was something about this red that made me want it too.  It's not a prim and proper red, it's slightly naughtier.

The Ultra Satin lip formula is different than the Ultra Matte formula.  The Ultra Satin formula will transfer.  If you get it expecting a transfer proof lip, you will be a sad, sad panda.

Many of the Ultra Satin Lips do not come with matching pencils.  However, ColourPop does have shades that it recommends with each color.  Prim does not have a matching liner.  ColourPop recommends the Creature Pencil with Prim.

This product is made in the USA, not tested on animals, gluten free, and is vegan.  They ship to the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, and APOs.

The Prim Ultra Satin Lip sells for $6.00 for the full size 3.2 grams of product.

The applicator is a  doe foot.  The size makes it fairly easy to apply your lipstick.  However, you can use a lip brush for a cleaner application and with reds, that's sometimes a really good idea as they are not so much fun when they get messy.

My skin looks like it glows in the dark, right?  It is a deep, blackened red that totally feels the vampy vibe.  This would look lovely on so many skin tones.  I've heard that it's like a redder LAX, but as I don't own LAX, I can't really say.  What I can say is that this is everything I wished Dahlia would be.

Left to Right: CP Prim and CP Dahlia
I loved the color of Dahlia, which is slightly brighter than Prim.  But it was so messy to work with and patchy that I think I only wore it once.

The application is smooth and creamy.  It is quite opaque.  The texture is thicker than the Ultra Mattes.  It has Energizer Bunny powers and can go about 8 hours.  You will want to exfoliate and moisturize, just because...red lips.  It is very comfortable and easy to apply.  It does leave behind a slight stain which does help it wear down in a good way.  It may feel drier on the tail end of wear, but it's definitely not a matte lipstick form of dry.  It may smudge through the day.  So after eating, you do want to check this one.

While it does last long, excessive oils will break it down.  Or it's just the avocado oil I used to take it off.  Random fact, this is the lippie I tried on before before Marshmallow and you can see a slight red tinge on the outside of my lips from it.

This one is a real winner.  I just adore it.  I'm thinking it is a better autumn color, but let me tell you how much I care when I rock this color.  Lucky you ladies who it is autumn for right now.

* I bought Prim with my own hard earned nickels and dimes.  I didn't pay with nickels and dimes, except in an electronic form as mailing bags of small change doesn't end well.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Marshmallow Lippie and Pencil

Okay friends, I'm not going to lie.  When I saw this color, I was incredibly curious and at the same time a little scared.  It's just on the other side of my comfort zone.  It is that little leap into the cool unwearable colors that only really pretty girls can carry off with aplomb.

It is quite often sold out, which is another reason I wanted it.  I think there is something about when that happens that makes you very curious and makes you start to want things.  Like, it must be good because everyone is always buying it or something.

This formula is not to be confused the Ultra Matte formula which is not to transfer.  The Ultra Satin formula will transfer.  It's nothing that will slide down your face or mate with your teeth in an embarrassingly twisted relationship, but it will "kiss off."

Many of the Ultra Satin Lips do not come with matching pencils.  However, ColourPop does have shades that it recommends with each color. Marshmallow does have a matching lip liner.  In addition to the Marshmallow Pencil, ColourPop also recommends the Leather Pencil.

This product is made in the USA, not tested on animals, gluten free, and is vegan.  They ship to the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands and APOs.

Are you getting all toasty with anticipation yet?  The Marshmallow Ultra Matte Lip sells for $6.00 for the full size 3.2 grams of product and the Marshmallow Pencil is $5.00 for the 1.0 gram full size.

The pencil does require sharpening.  I do recommend using a good makeup pencil sharpener.  With mine I have found that they sharpen smoothly and evenly.  Some of them will kinda melt out when stored down so you can see the colored end.  If this happens, just flip them so the top is up and it will melt back down into shape.

The applicator is a  doe foot.  The size makes it fairly easy to apply your lipstick.  However, you can use a lip brush for a cleaner application.  For even more impact you can use a concealer to clean up the edges and have a super crisp look.

Wow, right?  It is so different.  It's cool.  It's a smoked lilac color that is unlike anything else I own.

Yes, this will not be for everyone.  My roommate was like "What?!  Why?!" when he saw it.  Well, he doesn't have to wear it!  But it is a fun color that is just wearable enough of an unwearable color.  It does seem to look better on darker skin, but don't let that stop you from having fun with it.

This goes on smooth and opaque.  It dries down to almost matte, but will transfer.  It lasts for about 7 hours and is quite comfortable, especially for how long it lasts.

You won't really feel this on your lips, except when you press your lips together, then you will feel a slight tackiness.  You can reapply later and it won't go funky bunch on your lips.

I love this formula.  Not everyone will be a fan of this color and it might not be first on your lips if you have a limited amount you can purchase.

* I toasted to my own marshmallow by making this purchase.  No one bought this for me or sent it to me for gooey fun time.

Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye

I love eyeshadow palettes.  Singles are fun because you you can get the exact colors you want.  Palettes let you explore.  Sometimes you'll find shades you never thought you'd like.  When the Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye Palette came out, I was torn.  Warm tones aren't my thing, but they do have their place, like as a transition color.  I knew at least four colors would be warm.  Also, the color names.  There are a couple that make me cringe.

Front of box
I let my inhibitions fly, because what this had was a good base of colors.  I really wanted some mattes I could have as my bread and butter sort of shades.  Basic, dependable colors.

Back of the box
The Shade and Light Eye Palette has twelve colors.  Three of them are 2.3 grams and the other nine are 1.1 grams.  It is not tested on animals and is made in the USA.  They are all matte, which was the draw for this.  Good mattes are like black eyeliner, they're an essential to a beauty wardrobe. See, I can talk myself into anything.  It sells for $46.00.

The packaging is cardboard, but feels substantial.  It is a flat black with shiny raised lettering and silver highlighting.  It has a magnetic closure.

The color names are listed on the back of the package.  I prefer them listed on the inside, but at least it is something that stays with the package.

Matte attack
The colors are arranged with the neutral quad on the left, the cool in the middle, and the warm is on the right.  Now, onto the part you actually care about!

Neutral Quad

Laetus is a matte vanilla.  It is finely milled, has okay pigmentation and the color can be little patchy and powdery.  It leans a little warm.

Samael is one of the names I cringed at.  I seriously refused to buy this for a long time because of this color name.  It is a fawn color that even though is a neutral does lean a little warm.  It is fine as well, has good pigmentation, but can be tough to layer at times.

Solas is a dark brown with reddish tones.  It has decent pigmentation and can be a little patchy.  However it does blend easily.  This neutral also leans a little warm.

Lucius has a satin matte finish in a creamy beige color.  It has good pigmentation, feels creamy, and blends well.

Cool Quad
Lazarus is one of my favorite shades in this palette.  It is a cool toned matte taupe.  The texture is creamy, it has good pigmentation, and blends beautifully.  This color is wonderful as a transition color for pale cool toned people.  It could also be used as a contour color or even a brow color.  I adore this shade.

Saleos is a cool toned deep taupey brown.  It has good pigmentation, can be a tad powdery, and blends decently.  This is another of my favorite colors.  I love this as a crease color.  But I feel it could be used in similar ways to Lazarus.

Shax is a wonderful black with cool tones.  I like the name as it reminds me of Charmed.  It has good pigmentation, a silky texture, but can be a little tough to blend out.  It still is a good black and very useful in any palette.

Liberatus is another staple shade in this palette for me.  It is an ivory with pink tones.  It has good pigmentation, is creamy, and blends well.  It actually works as a brow highlight for me.  It may turn chalky on deeper skin tones.

Warm Quad
Ludwin is a satin matte peach.  It has decent pigmentation but sheers out well.  It blends nicely and is a wonderful warm transition color that can be quite useful.

Succubus is a rusty brown that has decent pigmentation but can blend out to a sheer color.  Others might not like that about this color, but I found that because of this it made it very wearable for my pale, cool toned skin.

Sytry is a chocolate brown with yellow undertones.  It has good pigmentation, blends well, but can be a little powdery.

Latinus is a satin matte in a buttery beige color.  It has good pigmentation, creamy, and blends well.

I have had this palette for about two months now.  I had mostly wanted it for the cool tones.  I had feared the warm shades, but thought the neutrals might have their uses.  Honestly, I reach for the cool shades nearly every day.  But I do enjoy incorporating the warm colors as well.  Especially, Ludwin and Succubus.

The neutral shades, while the majority lean warm, have been very useful as well.  I wouldn't say this palette will knock your socks off or contains revolutionary colors.  It does however, contain very useful colors that might have you reaching for it more than others because you can form the base for any look with this palette.

I would recommend using a primer with these colors.  I haven't really thought of it for eye contouring, that idea seems gimmicky.  It is very useful for transition colors, crease, and highlight.  You can do a full eye look with this palette for a more neutral look.

You will find this useful if you do get it.  Aging eyes will find it even more useful as mattes tend to be more flattering.  It does the matte look quite successfully.  I can see why this palette has gained popularity.

* I bought this palette with my hard earned money.  No one sent this to me or thought I should review it.  I purchased this at Sephora and I used Ebates, this is my referral link.
